Writer-filmmaker Chandraprakash Dwivedi is all set to present the life story of the 12th century king Prithviraj Chauhan in his upcoming film Prithviraj.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie will see Akshay Kumar play the titular character.

As Prithviraj is a historical movie, Dwivedi spoke about the extensive research that he conducted before starting work on the project.

“Prithviraj is my dream project,” he said. “It’s a script I have nurtured for a long, long time because of the extensive research that was needed before I even attempted to make a film on this mighty and legendary king. To be precise, Prithviraj’s final research took about six months for me to be fully satisfied that every single fact had been checked multiple times.”

Prithviraj marks the Hindi film debut of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar. She will be playing Prithviraj’s princess Sanyogita. The film also stars Sonu Sood as Chand Vardai and Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha.

About the research that went into the making of the film, Dwivedi added, “I read many books on his life to ensure we are doing justice to Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in our film. Today, I’m deeply satisfied as a writer and filmmaker that I took this time before I could realize my dream. There is no samrat (emperor) like Prithviraj in our history and I hope our film is a fitting tribute to his valour and magnanimous way of life.”

Distributed by Yash Raj Films, Prithviraj is set to be released in cinemas on 3 June.
