Amid the release of a number of films based on Maratha history, Mahesh Manjrekar has announced Veer Daudale Saat, a film based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s military commander Prataprao Gurjar.

He made the announcement yesterday on the occasion of Maharashtra Day.

The story is set in 1674, months before the coronation of the Maratha emperor. Adilshahi general Bahlol Khan starts a fresh attack against Shivaji Maharaj. This angers the king and he writes a critical letter to Prataprao because the latter had released Bahlol Khan earlier after he promised not to invade Maratha territories.

Prataprao starts feeling guilty and decides to capture Bahlol Khan at any cost. He decides to march alone against the entire army of Bahlol Khan as he feels others shouldn’t be punished for his mistake. But six other Maratha soldiers join him on his mission.

This incident is known as 'Vedaat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat’ after the legendary Marathi poet Kusumagraj wrote a poem on the event with this title.

While making the announcement, Manjrekar also said that Veer Daudale Saat will be the most expensive Marathi film of all time. The film has been written by Parag Kulkarni and produced by Wasim Qureshi.

Veer Daudale Saat will be released during Diwali 2023.
