Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s upcoming film Belashuru, which features the same cast and characters as their movie Bela Seshe (2015), explores various shades of marital love within a joint family. While the trailer evokes nostalgia by depicting the late Soumitra Chatterjee and Swatilekha Sengupta’s onscreen chemistry, the equation of the other couples from the family shows that marriage is not easy.
The trailer informs us that this is a fresh story of the Majumdar family. It begins with a mother (Aparajita Adhya) and daughter discussing selfless love in order to make a marriage succeed. The trailer then shows some cosy moments shared by the elderly couple, Biswanath (Soumitra) and Aarti (Swatilekha), which contain the essence of years of selfless love.
However, Biswanath and Aarti’s sons and daughters have different stories to tell. Some have been forced into a marriage with an incompatible partner. In other relationships, insecurities have stopped the growth. But the story takes a heart-wrenching turn when Aarti goes missing. Her absence makes Biswanath realize the sacrifices she has made over the years. In the end, it seems Biswanath finds her in an unstable mental state and completely devotes himself to taking care of her much like how a father does for his child.
Belashuru also stars Rituparna Sengupta, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, Shankar Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Indrani Dutta, Manami Ghosh and Anindya Chatterjee.
It is slated to be released in theatres on 20 May.
