Actor Piyush Ranade's upcoming sci-fi drama Ajooni is set to arrive in cinemas on 8 July.
The actor took to his Instagram to announce the release date with a poster which depicts him sitting calmly on a boat with his back to the camera. The setting could possibly be a Varanasi riverfront.
The film has been helmed by Sakar Raut, who has also directed Ranade in Ti Dete To Deto Te Detat Saglech Detat Shivya (2017). Ajooni also stars Pratik Deshmukh, Pranav Raorane and Shweta Vengurlekar, who is making her debut in the film.
The film was announced in August 2020 via an intriguing title poster and a teaser, which indicated that the film is about an extraordinary man Ajooni, who has transcended the cycle of birth and death.
Although Marathi cinema has explored the sci-fi genre in films such as Phuntroo (2015), this is the first one to explore the idea of extraterrestrials. Interestingly there is an upcoming Marathi film, Neighbours, starring Chetan Chitnis and Krutika Gaikwad, that is also about aliens. The film was supposed to be released on 20 March 2020 but had to be postponed due to the statewide shutdown of cinema halls due to the pandemic. Since then, there has been no update about its release.
Ajooni is being produced by Arth Studioz in association with Sara Motion Pictures.
