After helming Bal Thackeray’s biopic Thackeray (2019), there was keen interest to know what Abhijit Panse would come up with next. More than three years later, he is back with another story on politics in the form of Planet Marathi’s web-series RaanBaazaar.
While Thackeray was a real-life story, RaanBaazaar is a fictional tale based on Maharashtra politics.
The story is basically about two sex workers, played by Tejaswini Pandit and Prajakta Mali. Many a time, their customers are from the political class. All hell breaks loose when a sex scandal involving a sex worker and a politician goes viral.
RaanBaazaar sees Mohan Agashe play the chief minister of Maharashtra. Sachin Khedekar and Mohan Joshi are also seen in the roles of politicians. Anant Jog is a senior cop who is loyal to the CM. The show also sees Panse making his debut as an actor in the role of an investigator. Urmila Kanetkar Kothare plays an ambitious politician. Makarand Anaspure has a blink-and-miss appearance in the trailer.
The casting of every artiste looks perfect. Panse’s treatment appears hard-hitting and bold, which goes with the medium. The show also seems to score highly on camerawork, background score and editing.
Produced by Akshay Bardapurkar of Planet Marathi, Abhijit Panse and Anita Palande, RaanBaazaar will be streamed on Planet Marathi OTT from 20 May. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to see the show:
