For the first time, half of the films featured in Netflix’s global non-English top 10 are from India.
Over the past week, five Indian films featured in Netflix’s global non-English top 10, a first for any country since the launch of the list last year.
The Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), which debuted at number one after its digital premiere, continues to be a strong presence on the list, along with Netflix’s Western noir Thar (2022).
The Tamil action thriller Beast (2022), starring Vijay, and its Hindi version Raw and the Hindi version of the romantic drama Radhe Shyam (2022), with Prabhas and Pooja Hegde, were also in the top 10.

Beast and its Hindi version clocked in nearly eight million viewing hours together.
Pratiksha Rao, director of films and licensing at Netflix India, said, “Our members in India love watching films — evident from how on Netflix, films make up a larger percentage of viewing in India than they do globally. Streaming has the unique ability to combine the best of entertainment and technology, enabling great stories to travel and making global entertainment a reality. We are thrilled to see Indian films on Netflix find audiences across the country and the world.”
Since the launch of the global top 10 list, 21 films from India have made the cut. Kartik Aaryan’s Dhamaka (2021), Haseen Dillruba (2021) starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, and the Tamil anthology Navarasa (2021), backed by Mani Ratnam and Jayendra Panchapakesan, have been featured on the list.
Netflix’s upcoming slate includes the digital premieres of Jersey (2022) on 20 May and the Hindi version of SS Rajamouli’s RRR (2022) on 2 June.
