Producer Boney Kapoor has confirmed that Malayalam star Manju Warrier has been signed opposite Ajith Kumar in his next production, AK 61, which is currently on the floors.

The film is rumoured to be an Indian adaptation of the Spanish comedy-crime-drama series Money Heist, with Ajith said to be playing the character of The Professor.

The producers have not made any announcement confirming that the film is an adaptation of Money Heist, but the industry grapevine says so.

In his latest interview to the cinema website Galatta.com, Boney Kapoor confirmed signing Manju Warrier for the project. This will be only the second Tamil film of the Malayalam star after Dhanush’s Asuran (2019).

The film is being directed by H Vinoth, who wrote and directed Ajith's previous two releases, Valimai (2022) and Nerkonda Paarvai (2019). The project also marks the third collaboration among Kapoor, Ajith and Vinoth.

Recently, Kapoor took to Twitter to share a glimpse of Ajith’s look from the forthcoming film and fans wanted to know if the superstar was playing a negative character.

Ajith was seen recently in Valimai, in which he played a police officer on the trail of a biker gang of outlaws. The film also starred Huma Qureshi and Karthikeya. Apart from Tamil, the film was also released in Telugu and Kannada.

Boney, son of the late Hindi film producer Surinder Kapoor and elder brother of veteran Hindi star Anil, forayed into the Tamil industry with the Pink (2016) remake Nerkonda Paarvai, which starred Ajith in the role originally played by Amitabh Bachchan.
