Srijit Mukerji’s Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga (2022), co-produced by T-Series and Reliance Entertainment, is due to be released theatrically on 24 June. Inspired by real events, the Hindi satire stars Pankaj Tripathi, Neeraj Kabi and Sayani Gupta.
This is the Bengali filmmaker’s second Hindi film after the period drama Begum Jaan (2017). He has also helmed the sports biopic Shabaash Mithu (2022), starring Taapsee Pannu, which is due to be released on 15 July.
According to the release announcement, Mukherji, who has written and directed Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga, presents “an insightful story about the adverse effects of urbanization, man-animal conflict and poverty leading to a bizarre practice in a village that resides on the edge of a forest”.
Calling this his dream project, the filmmaker stated, “I am glad to reunite with Reliance Entertainment to make Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga. I got inspired by the real incident of tragic practises in villages bordering the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve and I knew I had to capture it in my next.
He added, “It takes great courage to sacrifice one’s life to save the family and my film revolves around this heroism with a focus on man and nature conflict. This subject is really close to my heart and I hope it will ignite the same emotions with the audiences regarding various social issues in our society.”
Presented by Gulshan Kumar, T-Series Film and Reliance Entertainment, Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Reliance Entertainment and production by Match Cut Productions Private Limited.
