It appears that the film will portray the late Shiv Sena leader as a larger-than-life hero who always came to the rescue of his people.

The makers of Dharmaveer, a biopic of the late Shiv Sena leader from Thane, Anand Dighe, have released the trailer for the film just two days before its theatrical release.

The promo begins with the entry of Dighe (Prasad Oak) as a larger-than-life hero. The first few seconds of the trailer make it pretty clear that his character will be portrayed as a messiah of the common people.

The trailer proceeds to show Dighe standing up to Muslim rioters. It seems this portion takes place after the 1993 riots in Mumbai. Dighe even starts his own court where he hunts for evidence on his own instead of relying on others.

The trailer makes it pretty obvious that the film has been made like a commercial entertainer and there will be a lot of whistle-worthy moments.

Oak seems to have put in a lot of effort to get into Dighe's character. The actor excels in the role. It helps that he bears a resemblance to Dighe. The credit for this should also go to the film's make-up artiste, Vidyadhar Bhatte.

Dighe was one of the more powerful leaders of the Shiv Sena who was considered second only to the party's founder Bal Thackeray in terms of popularity.

Written and directed by Pravin Tarde and produced by Mangesh Desai and Zee Studios, Dharmaveer will be released in cinemas on 13 May. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch this film.
