The endless barrage of rural inter-class love stories in Marathi cinema is getting frustrating now, especially when the Malayalam film industry is coming up with unique and interesting films that explore new subjects every week.

After the success of Sairat (2016), a number of filmmakers have up with similar stories. Shivaji Doltade's Majnu seems to be another such film. The film is about two college students (Rohan Patil and newcomer Svetlana Ahire) who are in love.

The teaser doesn't reveal anything about the story except that it is set in a small town.

Speaking about the film, the director said, "Whether in the city or in the village, every young man begins to think of himself as Majnu after finishing school and entering college. All young boys and girls are first introduced to love at this stage of their life. This film is not just a simple love story but a complete package. In Majnu the audience will still get to see various aspects like love, struggle, suspense and estrangement."

The film also stars Suresh Vishwakarma, Nitish Chavan, Milind Shinde, Arbaj Sheikh, Pranav Raorane, Aditi Sharangdhar, Madhavi Juvekar and Bhakti Chavan. Chetan Sagde has edited the film while P Shankaram, Sachin Awghade and Sajan-Vishal have composed its music.

Produced and written by Govardhan Doltade, Majnu is slated to be released in theatres on 10 June.
