The global international studio International Art Machine has picked up Amish Tripathi's bestselling Shiva Trilogy, which will be adapted into a web-series directed by Shekhar Kapur and Suparn S Varma.

The series, which is set in the ancient realm of Meluha, comprises the books The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret Of The Nagas and The Oath Of The Vayuputras.

Producer Roy Price shared the news on social media, announcing Shekhar Kapur and Suparn S Varma as the key directorial team for the project. The latter is also the showrunner of the series.

Filmmaker Karan Johar expressed interest in adapting the books in 2014, but the project failed to materialize. In 2019, Tripathi announced that he had regained the rights to the book adaptations and was working with a producer overseas to create a series.

International Art Machine recently signed on Varma, Kapur, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee and actress Preity Zinta for multiple projects.

Speaking to Deadline.com, Kapur said, "Amish’s Shiva Trilogy has been India’s great publishing sensation, crossing every age and class. It’s not just mythology, it’s modern storytelling at its best. Lending itself to a beautiful international series."

Varma, who also directed the second season of Amazon Prime's Family Man (2021), said, "The Meluha trilogy by Amish Tripathi is a genre-defining book and has become part of the pop culture of the country. I loved the reimagining and the world-building. The scale of vision and the ambition of our show visually and emotionally is as huge a task but we want to bring to audiences a vision that has never been seen before on screens.”

The studio will also back Zinta's Kitty Party and Banerjee's political drama Gods. The producers have not yet announced an OTT platform for the series or its cast yet.
