Actress Ritabhari Chakraborty will play a plus-size model in Aritra Mukherjee's upcoming film Fatafati, which highlights the issue of body shaming.
Windows Production made the announcement via a promo video, which was released on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Fatafati, which was announced back in September 2020, will also star Abir Chatterjee, who will play Chakraborty's husband in the film.
In the promo, the lead artistes discuss the hourglass figure, which has been considered ideal for women for years, while measuring a mannequin. Chakraborty then reveals her avatar as the plus-size model at the end of the promo.
Two years ago, on the same date, Windows Production had released Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti (2020), in which Chakraborty played a female priest. The film was screened at the Indian Panorama section of the 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa and fared well commercially.
“I am immensely proud of Brahma Janen Gopon Kommoti not because of the box office success that it was but the change it brought about in society with women priests taking a step forward,” said Chakraborty. “With this film too, I hope to drive home a very important message. Not only am I confident about the team I am working with, but I am also truly happy to be back with them, as it feels like home.”
Fatafati is Chatterjee’s second Windows Production project after Manojder Adbhut Bari (2018). I have always wanted to work with Windows and am delighted to be a part of this film," said the actor. "Also, cinema is an important medium and we, as actors, want to communicate a few things through it, as much as we want to entertain people. Fatafati has both in equal measure.”
Speaking of the film, director-turned-producer and co-founder of Windows Production Shiboprosad Mukherjee said, “Windows always focuses on creating original content that is meaningful. We are happy to bring the audience yet another film that will be both important and entertaining.”
Aritra Mukherjee, who is currently relishing the success of his recent film Baba Baby O (2022), commented, “I have worked with Ritabhari, who is a powerful actor, and wanted to collaborate with her again. Abir is excellent in every role that he plays. In this film, he will be seen in a completely different avatar and my team and I are excited to embark on a new journey."
Fatafati will go on the floors in April.
