The trailer of the upcoming Hoichoi series Sundarbaner Vidyasagar offers glimpses of a story that beautifully draws a parallel between the 19th-century educator and social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and a modern-day youth in terms of the upliftment of widows.
In this directorial venture by Korok Murmu, Riddhi Sen plays Kinkar, an overachieving teenager whose parents have high expectations. In one of the visuals, like Vidyasagar, Kinkar too can be seen studying under the streetlights at night. However, when his results come out, he disappoints everyone and sheepishly asks for a humble job.
In order to save himself from further embarrassment, Kinkar joins a project undertaken by the government in the Kumirkhali village of the Sunderbans, which is primarily inhabited by widows.
Kinkar is tasked with getting Sundari Bahini, a group of widows to participate in a project dedicated to the development of the region's famous mangrove forests, but some government officials have a hidden agenda.
One of the widows, Parboti (Ushasi Ray), grows suspicious of the officials. Promising her his unconditional friendship, Kinkar pledges to protect the rights of the widows. Despite facing humiliation and failure, Kinkar refuses to give up and he fights till the end to prove himself capable of fulfilling his responsibilities.
The series promises a strong story by Arkadeep Nath and refreshing performance by Sen.
Sundarbaner Vidyasagar will be streamed on Hoichoi from 11 March.
