Producer-director Sajit Warrier and ace photographer Somsubhro Sarkaar are coming together for an OTT project based on the novel Chhandahara by the latter's father, Professor Sachidananda Sarkar, who went by the pen-name Nigudananda. The film will be written by Paulami DuttaGupta.

Chhandahara, a novel set in the aftermath of Partition, portrays the struggle for survival of women in Bengal, a province ravaged by the consequences of the act in 1947.

The story unfolds through the eyes of a woman. It also touches upon the Green Revolution of the 1960s and the rise of communism in Bengal.

According to Somsubhro, “I decided to adapt the story not only because it is written by my dad, but also because I am born with this history.”

For Warrier, the collaboration to create an OTT series will enable them to bring some classic stories to the screen and make them accessible to a larger audience.

“Historical fiction is close to my heart and the journey to the Green Revolution was a great aspect of our growth,” he said. “Our first series delves into this world and has some characters with whom one can relate. Their trials and tribulations are dramatic and will draw viewers who are looking for engaging content.”

Sajit Warrier has earlier directed Chakravyuh: An Inspector Virkar Cirme Thriller (2021), Disco Valley (2016) and Taxi Tales: Mumbai (2015).
