Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma will star in the Netflix series Soup, which will be directed by Abhishek Chaubey.
The dark-comedy crime series has been produced by MacGuffin Pictures.
The streaming platform released a first-look, behind-the-scenes video that shows the cast and crew in production. Chaubey is both the showrunner and director of Soup.
The video features some intriguing interactions between the first-time collaborators Bajpayee and Sensharma, with the latter looking peeved at not getting her way.
Soup is loosely based on a true-life incident. According to a press release by Netflix, it tells the tale of Swathi Shetty (Sensharma), an incompetent cook who dreams of having a restaurant of her own someday. However, her suspicious husband, Prabhakar (Bajpayee) doesn’t support her aspirations and has doubts of his own.
It adds, “Soon fate gives her an opportunity and she starts to cook up a master plan. But things don’t go as intended, as whimsical characters and amateur villains ruin the broth.”
The cast also includes Nasser, Sayaji Shinde and Lal.
In the past two years, Chaubey has produced Raat Akeli Hai (2020) and directed segments in Ray (2021) and Ankahi Kahaniya (2021). He stated, “Working with Netflix on Soup has been really exciting and I’m thrilled to share our story with audiences all across the world. We’ve had a wonderful experience shooting Manoj, Konkona and the entire cast and crew of Soup, can’t wait to showcase this motley bunch of idiosyncratic characters.”
The filmmaker is also working on the biopic of hockey legend Dhyan Chand which is being produced by RSVP Movies and Blue Monkey Films.
Created by Chaubey, Unaiza Merchant, Anant Tripathi and Harshad Nalawade, Soup is expected to be premiered later this year on Netflix.
