After benefitting from the Mahashivratri holiday on Tuesday, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi earned an impressive Rs6.25 crore nett yesterday, which was a normal working day.

The Alia Bhatt-starrer has made Rs61 crore so far, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

As per Cinestaan's trade sources, the period epic was made on a budget of Rs110 crore. It seems the movie has a good chance of reaching that number.

Gangubai Kathiawadi has been adapted from S Hussain Zadi and Jane Borges’ book Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. The film tells the story of a sex worker who goes on to become the madam of the brothel.

The movie will face some competition this week. Nagraj Popatrao Manjule’s Jhund, which is releasing this week on Friday, is expected to make decent numbers in Maharashtra at least, because of its local topic.

But more than that, the Hollywood superhero film The Batman is expected to have an impressive opening. In fact, as per BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film has already seen good advance booking in multiplexes. The booking isn’t as exceptional as the earlier Hollywood superhero flick Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it’s certainly on the positive side.
