Vidyut Jammwal will play Sher Singh Raana, who was convicted of the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi, in a film of the same name. The project has been directed by Shree Narrayan Singh and produced by Vinod Bhanushali.

Sher Singh Raana also claimed to have brought back the ashes of the 12th-century ruler Prithviraj Chauhan from present-day Afghanistan in 2005.

Sharing his reaction on bagging the film, Jammwal said in a statement, “Sher Singh Raana marks my first biopic. I think destiny connected the dots when the role of the fearless Sher Singh Raana came to me. I look forward to working with Vinod Bhanushali and Shree Narrayan Singh.”

Speaking about why the project is important for him, Singh said, “When you hear tales of Sher Singh Raana, you know that his life and his experiences were filled with adventure and intrigue. While Vidyut has conquered the action space, in this film we see him take on a character he has never attempted before. It is about this man whose sole focus was to do something for his nation.”

Bhanushali said that Jammwal hasn’t played such a character before. “Sher Singh Raana will shed light on a story that created a stir in India years ago. Audiences will witness Vidyut in a never-seen-before character and the vision Shree will bring on screen is definitely going to be gripping,” he said.

Rana escaped from Tihar jail in 2004 and claimed that he did so to bring back the remains of Prithviraj Chauhan. He was convicted for the murder of Phoolan Devi in 2014 and was granted bail in 2016 after which he joined politics.
