Filmmaker Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One Films has joined the team of American director Galen Rosenthal’s debut feature film Robber's Roost as executive producer.

Rosenthal is currently completing the final schedule of the psychological thriller, featuring the late actress Margot Kidder as the older version of the protagonist played by Nathalia Acevedo and David Stevens, in sub-zero temperatures in Park City, Utah, USA.

Set at the turn of the 20th century, when much of the western United States was still in between an unsettled frontier and a thriving hub for immigrants and those wanting to restart their lives from the East Coast, Robber's Roost is the story of an old woman who has lived a solitary life in a desolate mountain cabin for decades.

When she is in the twilight of her life, a mysterious person (Stevens) emerges from her past during the harsh winter one day.

According to the director, “This movie is all about memory, old age, and in old age we no longer live in the present but reminisce about the past.”

In the film, the location, where classics such as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid (1969), Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989), Thelma And Louise (1991) and Forrest Gump (1994) have also been filmed, itself plays a significant character.

Robber's Roost is being shot by Tribeca Film Festival award-winning cinematographer Shlomo Godder, known for his work in Jerusalem: City Of Faith And Fury (2021).

Rosenthal, who has worked in the past as a programming consultant for some prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Sundance and Slamdance, has had more than his fair share of difficulties in making his film. “In these past three years, in my journey to complete this film, I have had to deal with the death of my lead actress, the destruction of my set by the worst winter in a decade, and then the COVID-19 pandemic," he said. "Basically, I have had the Apocalypse Now experience on a budget.”

Canadian American actress Margot Kidder died in May 2018, when the film was still incomplete. Mexican actress Acevedo, who made her debut in the award-winning film Post Tenebras Lux (2012), stepped in to play Kidder's younger version and complete the project.

According to Rosenthal, with Bora coming on board, things are finally back on track for Robber's Roost. “Within the global independent filmmaking community, there are very few people who have in-depth knowledge of the entire filmmaking process, from production to marketing, distribution and monetization," the director said. "Shiladitya is one such rare film professional, and we are so excited for the passion and experience that he will bring to the film.”

After working on acclaimed projects, including Masaan (2015) and The Song Of Scorpions (2017), Bora is thrilled to work on his first American project.

“I felt inspired by the incredibly passionate approach of writer-director Galen, and so Robber's Roost felt like the right project to set foot in the American market," he said. "The prospect of collaborating with such a talented international cast and crew is just the cherry on the cake.”

Produced by Dustin Puttuck, Matt Weight and Aron Govil, Robber's Roost is slated for a fall 2023 global release.
