Dasvi song ‘Macha Macha Re’: Enjoyable earworm that establishes Abhishek Bachchan’s charismatic politician

The first song from Dasvi (2022) ‘Macha Macha Re’ sets up Abhishek Bachchan’s Ganga Ram Chaudhary, a shrewd politician, who finds himself behind bars amid an investigation into a scam that was carried out while he was chief minister.

Bachchan, in a rural avatar, shows off his moves, and raw charisma, as he moves from the political stage to a lockup. Donning a pagdi, sunglasses and colourful kurtas, the actor looks every inch a heartland politician.

In ‘Macha Macha Re’, composers Sachin-Jigar succeed in creating an uptempo anthem. Lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya uses rhyming words and repetition to create the mood.

Mellow D’s rap section also adds flair to the masala song. Singers Mika Singh, Divya Kumar collaborated with Sachin-Jigar for this celebratory track. No one artiste stands out but the composers use the combined vocals to great effect here.

Dasvi, which also stars Yami Gautam Dhar and Nimrat Kaur, sees Bachchan’s Chaudhary vow to finally complete his education from behind bars.

Directed by Tushar Jalota, Dasvi is  being produced by Dinesh Vijan and Bake My Cake Films. The Hindi film will be premiered on Jio Cinema and Netflix from 7 April.
