Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios have acquired the remake rights of the acclaimed and successful Malayalam love story Hridayam (2022) in multiple languages.

Sharing the news, Johar said on Twitter, “I am so delighted and honoured to share this news with you. Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios have acquired the rights to a beautiful, coming-of-age love story, Hridayam, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu — all the way from the South, the world of Malayalam cinema.”

Directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, Hridayam stars Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran and revolves around the character of Arun (Pranav) who joins an engineering college and falls for fellow student Darshana (Darshana). However, they break up for some reason and Arun moves on to another phase of his journey.

Hridayam not only earned appreciation but also high returns at the box office.

Johar hasn’t revealed the cast, crew and other details of the remake plans. It is also not known whether the same set of actors would be seen in all three languages — Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

In 2019, Johar had bought the right to remake the Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Telugu movie Dear Comrade (2019). There has been no development on that front since.
