Short film Parchaaiyaan to pay tribute to poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi


Starring Tanuj Virwani, Sezal Sharma and Hemant Kher, the short film has been directeed by Chandrakant Singh.

Filmmaker Chandrakant Singh’s next, the short film Parchaaiyaan, is a tribute to the renowned poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi. The title refers to one of Sahir's books, which later also became the name of his home in Mumbai.

Starring Tanuj Virwani, Sezal Sharma and Hemant Kher, the short film is currently in production.

Sahir received the Filmfare award for Best Lyricist twice, for Taj Mahal (1963) and Kabhi Kabhie (1976). He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1971. He is known for his classic lyrics from films like Baazi (1951), Naya Daur (1957), Pyaasa (1957),  Sadhna (1958), Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Hum Dono (1961) and Waqt (1965).

Chandrakant Singh has earlier directed Hindi films such as Rama Rama Kya Hai Dramaaa (2008), Bin Bulaye Baraati (2011), Be-Careful (2011) and Main Zaroor Aaunga (2019).

In a statement, the filmmaker said, “I'm the greatest fan of Sahir Ludhianviji. [This] March 8 marked the 101st birth anniversary of Sahirji, the extraordinary Urdu poet-lyricist. I thought this is the best way to pay tribute to him. It's a pleasure working with Tanuj Virwani, Sezal Sharma and Hemant Kher.”
