After delivering the first Marathi blockbuster of the pandemic era, Pawankhind (2022), Digpal Lanjekar is now ready with his fourth historical epic in his Maratha cinematic universe, which is set in the 17th century, Sher Shivraj. The film will arrive in theatres on 22 April 2022.

Got the idea of making films on Maratha history in junior college, says Digpal Lanjekar

The makers announced the release date via a video clip that features Chinmay Mandlekar, who is reprising his role as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The clip also features the fearsome Adilshahi general Afzal Khan, but they have kept his face out of focus, making it difficult to figure out who is playing the role.

Lanjekar had told Cinestaan.com that the makers were planning to release the film in the next four or five months. But maybe the makers want to capitalize on the grand success of Pawankhind and hence decided to advance the release by a couple of months.

The film will revolve around the famous encounter at Pratapgad near Satara where the young Shivaji got the better of Afzal Khan.

Ajay Purkar, who played the role of Baji Prabhu Deshpande in Pawankhind, will be seen as Tanaji Malusare in the upcoming film.

The makers have kept the details of the rest of the cast under wraps.

Sher Shivraj is being produced by Nittin Keni's Mumbai Movie Studios, Pradyot Pendharkar, Anil Narayanrao Warkhade's Raajwarasa Productions in association with Lanjekar, and Mandlekar's Mulakshar Productions. The film will be distributed by UFO Moviez.
