Srijit Mukherji’s Shabaash Mithu is based on the life of Mithali Raj, the Test and ODI captain of India women's national cricket team. The teaser of the film starts in an obvious fashion.
We see visuals of a jam-packed cricket stadium where commentators Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle go all out to build excitement for the arrival of the protagonist at the crease.
The teaser doesn’t reveal anything in terms of plot. In fact, the star, Taapsee Pannu, isn't seen for more than two seconds. In other words, it succeeds in doing what teasers are supposed to do – build excitement and anticipation for the trailer and not try to be the latter itself.
The teaser lists the important achievements of Mithali Raj. She is the only Indian cricketer to score seven consecutive half-centuries, the youngest player to score a double century in Test matches and someone who has captained India in four world cups.
The iconic Lord's cricket ground in London is shown numerous times. Several scenes in Kabir Khan’s recent acclaimed cricket saga 83 were also shot in the same stadium.
The tagline of the film reads – The unheard story of women in blue, which indicates that Shabaash Mithu will also focus on other female Indian cricketers.
