Director Indrasis Acharya has recently finished shooting his upcoming film Niharika, which stars Anuradha Mukherjee, Shilajit Majumdar, Anindya Sengupta and Mallika Mazumdar.

The film narrates the story of a woman (Mukherjee), who lives in isolation, away from the bustles of the city. The name of the house in which she resides is Niharika.

According to a report in Ei Samay, a Bengali newspaper, the film will depict the interpersonal equation between humans and nature.

"The film highlights the existential crisis of a woman, who lives away from civilization. After coming in contact with modernity, she returns to her roots, to a life of solitude as she embarks on a journey of searching for her own identity while dwelling in the dilemma of whether she needs both mental and physical companionship,” explained the director.

Singer-turned-actor Shilajit will be playing a crucial role in the protagonist’s life, while Sengupta will essay the character of her fiancé. Mallika will be seen as Shilajit’s wife in the film.

The film has been funded by fifteen acquaintances of the director. Citing the reason for opting for such a funding process, the filmmaker said, “I have captured all of the seasons by shooting the film at different times in the past two years. Producers of West Bengal generally don’t want to invest in a film for such a long time. Also, I wasn’t too keen on complying with any producer’s particular wish. I am grateful to all the technicians and actors for cooperating with me in making my film without any compromises."

The film has been shot in Kolkata, Madhupur, Giridi and Shimultala. Joy Sarkar is in charge of composing music for the film.
