The Akshay Kumar-starrer Bachchhan Paandey opened on Friday with Rs12.25-50 crore nett, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The comedy's collection is fairly good considering the overwhelmingly positive response to Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's drama The Kashmir Files.

Directed by Farhad Samji, Bachchhan Paandey performed better in the Gujarat/Saurashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai circuits. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the film lost approximately Rs50-60 lakh in the Bihar circuit due to the Holi weekend holiday.

The film will need to fare better over the week to break even. With a budget reportedly around Rs150-160 crore, it faces an uphill battle.

Meanwhile, The Kashmir Files continues to do well at the box office. According to the site, it managed to earn another Rs19.25 crore on Friday, which takes its overall tally to an impressive Rs114.75 crore.

The film has been buoyed by the support of various state governments and the ruling party. Going by its numbers, the film is likely to hit the Rs200 crore mark in the coming week.
