Won't be surprised if Rahul Deshpande bags National award for his performance in Me Vasantrao, says Nana Patekar

The makers of Hindustani classical singer Vasantrao Deshpande's biopic, Me Vasantrao, launched the film's trailer on Monday.

The film has been directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and stars classical singer Rahul Deshpande as his grandfather.

Along with the film's ensemble cast, Nana Patekar was also present as a chief guest at Monday's event. During a media interaction, the veteran actor spoke about the film and his relationship with Vasantrao Deshpande. 

"I have seen the film and I really loved it.  Nipun and Rahul have made such a beautiful film. I don't like to praise something just for the sake of it but I'm genuinely in awe of this film now," he said.

 The film also marks Rahul's acting debut in a feature film. Patekar said, "The most surprising aspect of this film for me was Rahul's performance. I have heard him sing since he was a young boy and I don't need to tell you how talented a singer he is, but after watching this film, I can say with confidence that I won't be surprised if he even wins the National award for his acting. He has done such an excellent job."

Asked about the film's music which has been composed by Rahul, Patekar replied, "Music is not my field, so I can't speak much about it, that's why I'm talking about his acting performance".

The senior actor also revealed a big secret about his connection with Vasantrao Deshpande. "I have met Vasantrao Deshpande. We even had a heartfelt conversation. Very few people know that I even played the tabla for him when he was in Mahabaleshwar. I still very clearly remember that whenever I would miss the beat, he would adjust his singing to match with my rhythm. That was such a huge thing for a young guy like me."

The film features Anita Date, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Amey Wagh and Kaumudi Walokar.
