Box office: The Kashmir Files has a phenomenal Monday

The remarkable run of Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files continues at the box office. The film, about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in 1990, made Rs15 crore nett on its first Monday in theatres, according to trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Films typically see a drop in earnings on Monday, but The Kashmir Files recorded the same collection as it did on Sunday. According to the website, smaller centres accounted for its success on Sunday while it did well in multiplexes in cities yesterday.

The four-day grand total of The Kashmir Files, which stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, Chinmay Mandlekar, Pallavi Joshi and Bhasha Sumbli, stands at an impressive Rs41 crore. The film’s budget, according to sources, was only Rs14 crore.

On the other hand, the Hindi version of Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam, which has been faring poorly, fell further on Monday. The love story, which deals with astrology, earned only Rs1.50 crore nett yesterday, taking its overall total in the language to only Rs15.50 crore. 

The film’s producers have, however, claimed that the Telugu version made Rs151 crore on its first weekend. While impressive, the number pales in comparison with the movie's mammoth Rs300 crore budget.
