The Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi has entered the elusive Rs100 crore club.

The Sanjay Leela Bhansali period drama achieved the feat, which is rare for a female-centric Hindi film, exactly at the end of its second week, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Gangubai Kathiawadi review: Alia Bhatt has swagger and sass as a brothel madam who rises to great heights in Bombay

Gangubai Kathiawadi amassed Rs66.72 crore in its first week and Rs34.75 crore in its second. Its drop was less than 50%, which is a good sign for any film.

The grand total of the movie currently stands at Rs101.47 crore against a budget of Rs110 crore. The film is expected to surpass its cost of production by the time its theatrical run ends.

The big-ticket Prabhas-starrer Radhe Shyam, which had a wide release today, has received mixed reviews and its opening hasn’t been impressive, especially in the non-South regions. This will help the other release of the week, The Kashmir Films, and, to some extent, the Bhansali movie too.

Meanwhile, Nagraj Manjule’s Jhund made an underwhelming Rs8.75 crore in its first week. The Amitabh Bachchan-starrer showed some growth on the weekdays but it wasn’t significant enough.

The Hollywood film The Batman earned a decent Rs29.90 crore in its first week at the Indian box office.
