After the Bombay high court recently dismissed a plea to stay the release of The Kashmir Files (2022), a Jammu court has restrained the makers from showing scenes depicting the late Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna.
The court passed the order on a suit filed by Nirmal Khanna, widow of the Indian Air Force officer. Nirmal Khanna had approached the court seeking removal or amendment of scenes depicting her husband, claiming they were contrary to facts.
Ravi Khanna was one of four air force personnel shot dead in Srinagar on 25 January 1990, allegedly by a group led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik.
According to legal news website BarandBench.com, the order issued by the court said, 'The defendants are restrained by way of temporary injunction from showing the scenes depicting the acts pertaining to the husband of the plaintiff namely Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna in the movie The Kashmir Files to be released on 11th of March 2022."
This order is, however, subject to objections, alterations, or modification.
Nirmal Khanna in her plea said she had attended a special premiere of The Kashmir Files and raised an objection soon after the screening while speaking on stage, but the makers did not pay heed to her.
The Kashmir Files is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in 1990. The film stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi. Darshan Kumaar, Chinmay Mandlekar and Mrinal Kulkarni.
