Vidya Balan plays an established journalist in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming movie Jalsa. Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film sees her teaming up with Shefali Shah, who essays the role of a maid.

“I have been fortunate to work with actors who have brought out the best in me because acting is about reacting. But there is only one Shefali Shah,” said Vidya during the trailer launch of the film when asked about her experience of working with her co-star.

Vidya recalled the time when she played a college student on a television show starring Shah in the early 1990s. “I have watched her since I first faced the camera,” she said. “It was with her in a television show. I don’t think she remembers. It was really her scene. We were a bunch playing college students. This was my first ever TV show and I remember being mesmerized watching her.”

The actress also said that since then, she has followed everything Shah has done in her career. “I can actually numerate her filmography for you,” she said. “That’s how I have watched her. I have admired and adored her forever. It was an absolute honour to be sharing screen space with her. I just hope we get more opportunities because Suresh, you didn’t give us enough scenes.”

Produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Jalsa will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 18 March.
