In Saumya Sengupta’s debut feature film Mrityu Pathajatri, actor Rahul Banerjee will be playing a prison inmate, who is about to receive the death penalty.
The film will depict the psychological complexities of a criminal, who is about to get hanged after serving a 12-years term behind bars.
Speaking to Anyasamay, an entertainment supplement of Ei Samay, a Bengali newspaper, Sengupta said, “I am not aware whether any film has been made in India on this subject before. The film will delve deep into the psychological turmoil of a prison inmate confined in the darkness of four walls. I have tried my best to bring alive the convict’s guilt, his desperate zeal for living life and extreme fear of death altogether in this film.”
According to the director, Banerjee had to undergo rigorous preparations for the role. Banerjee reportedly stopped all kinds of interactions on social media for a month and did regular workshops while visiting several prisons. Sengupta also feels that Mrityu Pathajatri is going to be one of the actor's finest works and the audience will have to wait for a few months to watch the film.
