The first season of SonyLIV’s Avrodh: The Siege Within (2020) was based on the Uri attacks of 2016 and how India avenged the death of its security personnel. The trailer of Avrodh (Season 2): The Siege Within indicates that the show will be about the demonetization of Rs500 and Rs1,000 notes, which was carried out in the same year.
Directed by Raj Acharya, Avrodh (Season 2) is adapted from the ninth chapter of Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless 2 titled Just Tell Me When to Begin Sir.
India’s intelligence learns that Pakistan-based terrorists will be attacking India this time through counterfeit currency. At the same time, they also realize that they are also planning a big attack on the ground. Hence, a captain from the Indian army, played by Abir Chatterjee, is tasked with foiling their plans. Apart from being a part of the army, Chatterjee’s character is also an income tax officer.
Only Anant Mahadevan and Neeraj Kabi, who play good actors on the side of the Indian government, are repeated from the first season. Chatterjee appears the perfect match for the character. The first season saw Vikram Gokhale as the prime minister of India. This time, Mohan Agashe is seen in that role. Sanjay Suri and Aahana Kumra play the role of terror masterminds.
The action-packed trailer gives hope that this season will be as good as the first one. Despite the subject, the first season didn’t turn out to be a propaganda vehicle. It will be interesting to see if the makers continue the same approach.
Written by Bijesh Jayrajan and Sudeep Nigam, Avrodh (Season 2) will be streamed on SonyLIV from 24 June.
