In Sudeep Das’s upcoming film Kuler Achaar, a woman decides to retain her maiden name after marriage and stands by her choice. Starring Madhumita Sarcar, Vikram Chatterjee, Indrani Haldar and Sujan Mukherjee, Kuler Achaar is a story of self-discovery with both intense dramatic moments and comic relief.
Mithi (Sarcar) doesn’t change her surname after marriage and her husband Pritam (Chatterjee) supports her choice. The trailer shows they face problems when the couple gets questioned by the police on their honeymoon as the latter suspect them to be unmarried because of their different surnames. Gradually, Mithi realizes that her father-in-law (Mukherjee) and other relatives also secretly despise her decision.
Mithi’s mother-in-law (Haldar), however, not only supports her but also gets inspired to use her maiden name, which infuriates her husband. Mithi begins to seem like a threat to the peace and stability of the family, while Pritam feels stuck between his wife and parents.
As the males blow the petty issue out of proportion and the family gets dragged into the court, a beautiful camaraderie forms between Mithi and her mother-in-law. Packed with drama and elements of romance and comedy, the film attempts to highlight the importance of women backing each other in the fight for their rights.
Kuler Achaar is slated to be released in theatres on 15 July.
