Shyamchi Aai needed a veteran music composer like Ashok Patki, says Sujay Dahake

The makers of Sujay Dahake’s Shyamchi Aai (2022) have revealed that veteran music director Ashok Patki has composed the music for the film.

Produced by Amruta Arun Rao under her banner Amruta Films, the movie is based on social worker and freedom fighter Pandurang Sadashiv Sane aka Sane Guruji’s autobiographical novel of the same name.

The first schedule of Shyamchi Aai went on the floors in April this year in the Konkan. The team recently completed the second schedule in Panhala.

Speaking about his association with the film, Patki said in a statement, “Shyamchi Aai is, till today, a milestone in Marathi cinema. The songs in this film, which reflect Sane Guruji’s thoughts, are very meaningful. As a musician, it is up to me to identify and convey the meaning to the audience through music. The songs will be sung by leading singers.”

The makers have revealed that the film will have three songs. Explaining the reason for bringing Patki on board, Dahake said, “The film needed a veteran composer like Patki to do justice to it through music. There are many well-known musicians in Indian music [industry] today, but he has been chosen for the music direction as he can make sure the sentiments of the songs can reach the hearts of the audience. The main reason for handing the responsibility of music to Patki is that the film will be released in black and white.”

Prahlad Keshav Atre, popularly known as Acharya Atre, had first turned the book into a film in 1953. The film became a classic and was adjudged Best Film at the first National awards.
