Box office: Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani's Jugjugg Jeeyo off to decent start

In light of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2's record-shattering collection, trade pundits had high hopes for Dharma Productions' family drama Jugjugg Jeeyo. Fortunately for its makers, the film had a good start, minting a decent Rs8.65 crore nett on its first day, according to the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

This is the fifth-highest opening for an original Hindi film this year. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which stars Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu, tops the list with Rs13.40 crore nett. 

Given its decent opening, Jugjugg Jeeyo could be on course to register a first-weekend collection of Rs35 crore, if it manages to show a good jump in numbers on Saturday and Sunday.

Backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Viacom18 Studios and helmed by Raj Mehta, Jugjugg Jeeyo is about couples from different generations who deal with marital discord.
