Ganesh Acharya gets anticipatory bail in sexual harassment case

Choreographer and filmmaker Ganesh Acharya was granted anticipatory bail by a magistrate's court in Mumbai on Thursday in connection with a sexual harassment case.

A complaint of sexual assault had been lodged against Acharya at the Amboli police station in February 2020 by an assistant choreographer.

The filmmaker was never arrested in the case and he was granted bail after he appeared before the magistrate yesterday.

The complainant has accused Acharya of showing her pornographic videos whenever she visited his office in 2009 and 2010. She also alleged that other women. too. were harassed by him.

The more serious allegation against Acharya by the complainant is that he and two others assaulted her during an event by the Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association in Mumbai on 26 January 2020.

A case was registered against Acharya under sections 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-C (watching, or capturing the image of a woman engaging in a private act), 354-D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Acharya has denied all allegations.

On the work front, Acharya’s Dehati Disco (2022) was released on 27 May. He was the director, actor, writer and music director of this film.
