Filmmaker Pa Ranjith, an important voice in mainstream cinema with his Dalit-themed films, is all set to join hands with Vikram for the first time.
Producer Gnanavel Raja has revealed in an interview with leading Tamil entertainment portals that his next project with Vikram will be made on a massive scale and could very well be India’s biggest 3D film.
The producer stated that the project will be made as a pan-Indian film. Actors from different industries are being roped in to make the film accessible in all languages.
The yet-untitled film will see Vikram team up with Ranjith for the first time. GV Prakash Kumar has been signed to compose the music. The makers will announce the rest of the cast and crew soon.
The shoot is planned over a course of six months and if everything goes as planned, the project will hit the screens next year.
Meanwhile, Vikram is looking forward to two releases this year — R Ajay Gnanamuthu’s long-delayed Cobra and Mani Ratnam’s epic Ponniyin Selvan. Both films are gearing up for release soon.
Ranjith’s last film was Sarpatta Parambarai, which had a direct release premiere on Amazon Prime. Sarpatta Parambarai, unlike Ranjith's recent movies, doesn’t openly discuss things like oppression and caste discrimination, which had branded him as an anti-caste filmmaker.
The film is a straightforward, highly absorbing boxing drama about the clash between two popular clans — Sarpatta and Idiyappan — that ruled the North Madras in the 1970s. At the same time, it is also an important story about one man’s fight for equality and glory. The film stars Arya in a career-defining role.
