My character is integral to narrative of Shamshera, says Vaani Kapoor

The explosive trailer of the period action-adventure film Shamshera looks quite impressive and while Ranbir Kapoor looks dashing and Sanjay Dutt menacing as the hero and villain respectively, Vaani Kapoor’s character seems to exude glamour.

The Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021) actress plays a travelling performer in the long-awaited magnum opus of filmmaker Karan Malhotra.

Talking about her role, Vaani Kapoor said, “I play the character of Sona, the most sought-after travelling performer in India in the 1800s.”

Stating that she has always chosen roles where her character pivots the script in a certain direction,  the artiste said, "Sona plays an important role in building the narrative. I’m thankful to Karan Malhotra for seeing me in this role. He held my hand every step of the way and guided me to bring Sona to life.”

Vaani Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor’s pairing is one of the film’s most anticipated elements. The actress was excited to share the screen with the Sanju (2018) star. “It’s amazing teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor — a powerhouse of talent. He’s truly a very special actor and my personal favourite.”

She also revealed that Sona is one of the most refreshing characters she has played so far.

Shamshera is set to be released on 22 July in Imax in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
