NCB files draft charges against Rhea, Showik Chakraborty in Sushant Singh Rajput death case

The prosecution has proposed that the court charge them for consumption of narcotics and for procuring and paying for such substances for the late actor.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday filed draft charges against actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and several others in the drugs case linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in a special court in Mumbai. The accused include the late actor’s manager, cook and roommate.

Rhea, who was Rajput’s girlfriend, and Showik were arrested by the NCB in 2020 as a part of the investigation into Rajput’s death. They were later granted bail.

The charges, which pertain to the production, manufacture, sale, purchase and transport of narcotics, were filed by public prosecutor Atul Sarpande. The prosecution has proposed that the court charge Rhea and Showik for consumption of narcotic substances and also for procuring and paying for such substances for Rajput.

The court has said that the charges would be framed only after the accused's discharge pleas are decided. Special judge VG Raghuwashi, who hears cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, will hear the case on 12 July.
