Filmmaker Tarun Majumder, who was hospitalized last week, is reportedly in a critical condition.
According to The Times of India, an English newspaper, the condition of the 91-year-old director deteriorated on Monday and he was shifted to the critical care unit (CCU) of a state-run hospital in Kolkata.
Majumder, who has been suffering from chest, kidney and heart-related ailments, was admitted to the nephrology department of the hospital last Friday.
The newspaper quoted a hospital spokesperson as saying, “His condition improved, and he was shifted to a general bed. But on Monday night, his condition deteriorated, and he was shifted back to CCU. An eight-member board has been formed for his treatment.”
The four-time National-award-winning director carved a niche of his own with films such as Palatak (1963), Balika Badhu (1967), Sriman Prithviraj (1973), Phuleswari (1974), Ganadevata (1979), Dadar Kirti (1980) and Bhalobasa Bhalobasa (1985).
In 1990, he was honoured with the Padma Sri by the government of India.
