Drishyam 2 sees the cast of the first film Drishyam (2015) — Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Tabu, Ishita Dutta and Rajat Kapoor — reprise their roles. Akshaye Khanna is the sole newcomer to the franchise.
The 2015 film was directed by Nishikant Kamat, who died in 2020. Drishyam 2 has been helmed by Abhishek Pathak, who directed the comedy-drama Ujda Chaman (2019). He has also produced the Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise, Drishyam, Raid (2019) and Section 375 (2019).
When Drishyam 2 went on the floors in February this year, Devgn said in a statement, “Drishyam was loved and it’s a legend. I am now elated to present yet another interesting story with Drishyam 2. Vijay [his character] is a multidimensional character and he creates an engaging narrative onscreen. Abhishek Pathak has a fresh vision for this film. I’m keenly looking forward to part two, filling in the large shoes of the earlier film with people investing in the mystery and the characters.”
Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the first film in the original franchise was released in 2013 and it starred Mohanlal, Meena, Asha Sharath and Siddique. The sequel, Drishyam 2, was released in 2021 with the same cast and director.
