JugJugg Jeeyo hit with copyright lawsuit

A Ranchi-based writer named Vishal A Singh has registered a case against Dharma Productions and the film will be screened in court ahead of its release.

Just three days prior to its release, Dharma Productions' multi-starrer JugJugg Jeeyo has found itself in a legal soup. A Ranchi-based writer named Vishal A Singh has registered a case against the production house, alleging that it had used his script, which was titled Bunny Rani, while making the film without giving him any credit. He has also demanded Rs1.5 crore as compensation.

The writer stated on Twitter that he had mailed extracts of his script to Dharma Productions.

A commercial court in Ranchi has ordered the makers to screen JugJugg Jeeyo ahead of its theatrical release on 24 June. After this, the court will continue with the arguments and decide whether or not the film violates the Copyright Act.

Cinestaan.com reached out to the film's publicist but did not receive a reply.

Last month, Pakistani singer Abrar-ul-Haq accused filmmaker Karan Johar and Dharma Productions on Twitter of using his song ‘Nach Punjaban’ without his permission. However, T-Series posted a note dismissing the artiste's claims.

Directed by Raj Mehta, the film stars Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor along with Maniesh Paul and Prajakta Koli and is slated to be released in theatres on 24 June.
