While the trailer of Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022) was released a few days ago to much fanfare, the poster of his other upcoming film, Shamshera, was unveiled today.
This sees Kapoor in a hirsute avatar, which is a stark contrast from his own self and the characters that he’s played so far. The makers have announced that the film will be released in the IMAX format on 22 July.
Director Karan Malhotra said Shamshera is a visual experience that has been designed to treat audiences to a spectacle that has never been seen before. "We are thrilled to release the film in IMAX, which will deliver the film’s visual extravaganza to audiences across the globe in the most immersive way," he said.
“Shamshera is an entirely new concept for today’s audience, and we feel it is a visual delight given the uniqueness of the subject. When we set out to make this film, we were clear that Shamshera would be best enjoyed on the big screen and in IMAX. So, it’s really heartening to announce this development to cine-goers across the world," he added.
The film is also being anticipated as Kapoor returns to the big screen after four years. Shamshera is set in the fictitious city of Kaza where a warrior tribe is imprisoned and tortured by Shudh Singh. Shamshera revolves around Kapoor’s character who becomes a slave and then fights for his tribe’s dignity and freedom, thus becoming their leader.
Alia Bhatt took to Instagram and shared the poster this morning, writing, “Now that’s a hot morning…I mean...good morning.”
Shamshera is set in the 1800s and interestingly, the makers revealed the film’s new poster to some of Ranbir Kapoor’s fans first and they were surprised and emotional when they got to meet the star.
The makers have released a video in which Kapoor is seen saying, “My fans were specially invited today to launch the poster of my film Shamshera. But there was a small twist. They didn’t know I was going to meet them and spend time with them.”
Shamshera, which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor, is set to be released on 22 July in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
