Shlok Sharma’s latest film Two Sisters And A Husband is in competition at the Tribeca Festival in the category of International Narrative.
Co-written by Sharma and Shilpa Srivastava, the Hindi film is produced by Sharma and Navin Shetty's Fundamental Pictures, along with Anurag Kashyap. The film had its world premiere in New York this week. The filmmaker walked the red carpet with the lead actresses, writer Shilpa Srivastava and producer Navin Shetty in New York; only lead actor Dinkar Sharma was absent.
The filmmaker said, “It has been an absolute honour to have 'Two Sisters And A Husband premiere at the Tribeca Festival. We couldn’t have asked for a better platform for the film.”
Founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in 2001, the festival is being held from 8 to 19 June.
Two Sisters And A Husband is described as “a love story gone awry”. It follows the lives of three characters, under one roof, constantly on the move as they run away from the prying eyes of society while sinking deeper and deeper in their own mess. It is the only film representing India this year at the festival.
Speaking about his collaborations with his co-writer Srivastava, Sharma shared, “Decoding the process of co-writing and co-creating with Shilpa is as twisted as the relationships in this film. We have just been writing together for so many years now and like most collaborations, we complement each other in the best possible way.”
He added, “My partner Navin has been a constant support. The protagonists have been played by Dinker Sharma, Manya Grover and Avani Rai and they have done a fabulous job in their portrayal of the characters that we built. I can't wait for the world to see our work of labour.”
The film will be played at the festival until 19 June.
