Boman Irani, who has been a part of Hindi cinema for 20 years, has now stepped into the digital world with Disney+ Hotstar’s web-series Masoom. Yesteryear actor Deepak Tijori's daughter Samara plays Irani's daughter in the show.
It is always important for something new to begin well and that is exactly how Irani felt about shooting for Masoom. “Nothing works better than the satisfying completion of a scene and a happy ending of a day where everyone looks around at each other with an unspoken feeling in their eyes, wishing each one ‘good night’, knowing that we have something good in the bag,” he said.
“We discount the fact that a good day’s work is actually the best feeling while driving home. If you are driving home, you are tired and you knock your head back to the seat as to how the day went and a little smile creeps in your face.”
Irani also showed his musical side to the Masoom team during a break. “The crew was amazing; great DoP [director of photography], great assistants and [a] great art team,” he said. “The hours were long; we were not in town, we were in Chandigarh and travel time used to play a big part.
"However, one day, as luck would have it, we had a day off and rounded up a bit. We went for dinner at a club in a mall in Chandigarh. We got together, got to know each other. I jumped up on stage and picked up a guitar, did some songs and all of us felt wonderful as if we had walked out of a rock concert!”
Masoom is about the death of a woman by falling from her bed. Her daughter (Tijori) suspects her father’s involvement in her mother’s death. Directed by Mihir Desai, the series is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
