Raksha Bandhan makers refuse to bow out, Akshay Kumar-starrer to clash with Laal Singh Chaddha

Last year, Akshay Kumar and Aanand L Rai announced the release date of their upcoming film Raksha Bandhan — 11 August 2022. Earlier this year, Aamir Khan revealed that his long-delayed Forrest Gump (1994) adaptation Laal Singh Chaddha would be released on the same day.

The audience was waiting to see if Akshay and Rai would back down. But the actor has confirmed that Raksha Bandhan will arrive in theatres on 11 August, as planned. Hence, this Independence Day weekend will see a big clash. 

Akshay tweeted a video on Thursday and wrote, “Bringing you all a story of the purest form of bond that will remind you of yours! Raksha Bandhan releasing in cinemas on 11 August 2022.” 

The clip features a song from the film, ‘Tere Saath Hoon Main’, followed by some celebratory music. 

Also starring Bhumi Pednekar, the first poster of the film was shared during Raksha Bandhan in 2020. It featured Akshay embracing four younger girls who appear to be his sisters. 

Rakshan Bandhan is the second time that Akshay is working under Rai’s direction after Atrangi Re (2021). The film, which also starred Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush, was released online in last December.
