After shuffling its release date a couple of times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mahesh Manjrekar’s De Dhakka 2 will finally be released in theatres on 5 August. As the title suggests, the film is the long-awaited second part of the cult hit De Dhakka (2008).
The makers made the announcement of the new release date through an elaborate motion poster for the film featuring cast members Shivaji Satam, Makarand Anaspure, Siddharth Jadhav, Medha Manjrekar, Saksham Kulkarni and the new entrant in the franchise, Gauri Ingawale. The last named, director Manjrekar's adopted daughter, had played the lead in his previous release Panghrun (2022).
De Dhakka was about a family’s journey in a village in an autorickshaw and what they go through in the course of that journey. But De Dhakka 2 will see the characters placed in London and the vehicle changed to a motorcar. Hence, the sequel appears grander than the first film.
The 2008 movie was directed by Sudesh Manjrekar and Atul Kale. But De Dhakka 2 is helmed by brothers Mahesh and Sudesh Manjrekar.
De Dhakka 2 stars other known names from Marathi cinema like Bharati Achrekar, Pravin Tarde, Vidyadhar Joshi and Sanjay Khapre.
The film is produced by Amey Vinod Khopkar Entertainment and distributed by Filmastra Studios.
