The Punjabi-language feature Television, starring Kulwinder Billa, Mandy Takhar and Gurpreet Ghuggi, takes us back to the time when television sets had just begun to come into the market in India.

Set in 1980, the trailer captures the novelty of owning a television set in a village in Punjab. The advent of technology becomes a celebrated event, with the villagers coming together to watch programmes. Along with the celebrations, we get a glimpse into the hiccups with this technology as people struggle with antennae and wires, hoping for a better picture resolution.

Although there is an atmosphere of celebration, the owners of the television set are fed up with neighbours flocking to their homes. Soon this leads to one-upmanship and competition between the locals who vie to get the idiot box for themselves. This leads to problems and hilarious situations as people demand television sets as dowry. On the other hand, the programmes push the boundaries of the morality of the public as well.

Directed by Taj, the comedy-drama is produced by Sumeet Singh and Pushpinder Kaur. The story and screenplay are by Mani Manjinder Singh. Television will release in theatres on 24 June.
