Makers of Karthi’s Sardar spend Rs4 crore to shoot key portion in Georgia, Azerbaijan

Tipped to be a high-octane action-thriller, the project marks the maiden collaboration between the actor and PS Mithran.

Karthi will have three releases in 2022. Apart from Mani Ratnam’s big-budget Ponniyin Selvan and the rural action drama Viruman, Karthi is currently busy wrapping up pending work on his upcoming action-thriller Sardar, in which he plays a cop.

The makers on Tuesday released a statement in which they revealed that they have spent Rs4 crore to shoot an important portion of the movie in Georgia and Azerbaijan. The team shot key scenes involving actor Chunky Pandey, who plays the antagonist, in the parliament of Azerbaijan.

Tipped to be a high-octane action-thriller, the project marks the maiden collaboration between Karthi and PS Mithran, known for films such as Irumbuthirai (2018) and Hero (2019). Karthi returns to playing a cop after donning khaki in Theeran Adhigaram Ondru (2017). The film marks the Tamil debut of Chunky Pandey and it also sees actress Laila make a comeback after 16 years.

Meanwhile, Karthi currently awaits the release of Mani Ratnam’s long-awaited magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan Part 1, based on the epic novel by Kalki. It will hit the screens worldwide on 30 September.

The film’s title poster was unveiled January in 2020. The film had gone on the floors in Thailand where a major portion of the first schedule was shot before it was suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The poster featured a sword with a golden hilt and it bears the emblem of the Chola kingdom along with the words ‘Beginning of the Golden Era’.
