Mithun Chakraborty and Mamata Shankar, the iconic pair from Mrinal Sen’s Mriyaga (1976) will reunite in Avijit Sen’s upcoming film Prajapoti (2022). Based on the story of father and son, the film will also star Dev Adhikari.
Prajapoti is Sen’s second film after Tonic (2021), which also starred Adhikari and veteran actor Paran Bandopadhyay.
In an interview with Anandaplus, the entertainment supplement of Bengali newspaper Anandabazar Patrika, Chakraborty revealed that his affection for Adhikari is one of the primary reasons for being part of the film. “To be honest, now I only agree to be part of the stories that appeal to my heart. This one is quite interesting. I hope the audience will love the film too,” said the actor.
Speaking of her reunion with Shankar, Chakraborty added, “She is one of the finest actresses I have ever worked with. For so many years, no one thought of casting us together, hence, we didn’t get to be part of a good story. Now the time has arrived, and I believe there is a right time for telling every story.”
Though Shankar did not disclose much about her character in the film, she hinted that she will have a crucial contribution to the father and son’s bonding. “I am quite nervous and excited about working with Mithun after so many years,” said the veteran actress. “I feel like I am giving it a shot for the first time. I am quite certain that while working in Prajapoti, I will feel the adrenaline rush of a first-timer again.”
According to Sen, the film is also a family drama like Tonic.
Produced by Atanu Raychaudhuri's Bengal Talkies and Adhikari's Dev Entertainment Ventures, Prajapoti will go on the floors on 5 July.
